Today is Easter Sunday, one of my two favorite holidays. O.K, maybe because it was usually close to or even on my birthday. It also meant the start of the home stretch of the school year - this teacher knew she could make it at this point. But even more, it is such a cheerful buoyant holiday - lilies, decorated eggs, chocolate bunnies, little kiddies, in their uncomfortable but adorable finery, squirming in church- one distinguished by re-birth, renewal. Awesome. How many of us wouldn't draw the "Start Over" card if we could, on some level.
Now, I refrain here from addressing the biblical relevance of this day, since I have not officially entered the New Testament. That's to come.
My Jewish friend, Helen, reminds me (over and over) how many Christian elements are borrowed (stolen) from the Jews, including the shifting date of Easter tied to the Jewish calendar, where every month has 28 days. Even the Last Supper being a Seder. We are still within the week of Passover, a celebration of liberation and hope, and I wish my Jewish friends a blessed one.
For now I wish all a beautiful day filled with blooming flowers, nesting birds (we have both a dove and a cactus wren laying eggs in our trees as I write this) and a vital sense of the human capacity to be re-born every single day, in whatever way you see and wish.

I extend an Easter wish for peace throughout the planet.
That's funny, I was born on Easter. I've always assumed my birthday would land on Easter every few years and never paid much attention. Turns out it hasn't happened yet and it won't until I turn 62 years old. Lame!!!
